Nature education and adventure in the lowland peat marsh
Looking for an adventurous school trip in the Frisian countryside? Come to National Park De Alde Feanen with your class.
At a glance
This educational school trip combines the classic school trip experience with learning activities and outdoor games in nature. The water-rich peat marsh is home to many aquatic animals, which children discover throughout the day in a playful and active way.
Teachers and parents also play an active role during the day. The programme consists of three activities, some of which you will carry out independently. With the help of a map and clear instructions, you explore nature together. An information booklet is sent in advance so you can prepare well for this adventurous day.
Separate programmes are available for grades 3–4 and grades 5–8.
The break takes place at a beautiful location by the water. Children can play football, swim, and it is possible to pre-order fries. Since all activities take place in or near the water, bringing dry clothing is essential.
You will be welcomed by our enthusiastic guide, who explains the programme and helps you get started with the first activity.
Adventure Trail
Children learn what it means to be a real survival adventurer. They walk across tree trunks, practise jumping, and slide on their stomach like an otter.
Water Creatures
No survival adventure is complete without fishing. While catching water creatures with nets, children learn about the animals living beneath the surface of the marsh.
White-tailed Eagle Activity
Children learn about this impressive bird through a scavenger hunt and by building a nest.
The Adventure Trail and White-tailed Eagle activities are completed independently by the group, using the instructions provided on site.
The day begins with a welcome from our guide, who explains the programme and helps you get started.
Low-rope Survival Course
Children climb across hanging bridges, balance on tree trunks and use a zip line to cross the water.
Otter Activity
Children learn about the otter, the largest predator in the waters of De Alde Feanen.
Water Creatures
Using nets, children discover the animals living in the water of the marsh.
The Otter activity is completed independently by the group using the instructions provided.
De Alde Feanen is a water-rich area, and a day outdoors differs from a day in the classroom. Adequate supervision is therefore important.
Recommended supervision:
Grades 3–4: 1 supervisor per 6 children
Grades 5–8: 1 supervisor per 8 children
More supervisors are always welcome.
Prepare for your adventure by viewing the map of the area. The activities are all within walking distance of each other. With the help of the map and signage, you can easily find your way.
The entire school trip takes place outdoors. There is no indoor alternative in case of bad weather. Rain is not a problem if you dress accordingly, but in the event of forecasted thunderstorms, the school trip will be cancelled.
Grades 3–4: €275 per class (max. 31 students)
Grades 5–8: €350 per class (max. 31 students)
Children may bring their own lunch, but it is also possible to order food in advance.
